Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Oregon

Portland, OR – PPB Responds to Fatal Pedestrian Crash on N Interstate Ave near N Russell StPedestrian accidents take place in the state of Oregon daily. In some instances, people end up passing away as a result of the injuries they suffered. There are many instances where innocent people die due to crashes that are caused by driver negligence. Leading causes of fatal pedestrian crashes that take place in Oregon include:

  • Speeding: Speed limit laws are designed to protect all road users, including pedestrians. But when drivers choose to ignore these laws and drive recklessly, they put everyone at risk.
  • Distracted driving: Drivers who are texting or otherwise not paying attention to the road are a danger to themselves and others. Drivers who are distracted while behind the wheel may not see pedestrians in time to avoid a crash.
  • Impairment: Impaired driving is yet another serious problem in Oregon. Driving while drunk or high can impact the driver’s ability to stop in time to avoid striking a pedestrian.
  • Failing to yield: It is important that drivers remember that pedestrians have the right-of-way in crosswalks and intersections. Drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians are putting them in danger.
