Pedestrian Accidents in Oregon
Between 2018 and 2019, the state of Oregon saw a 22% increase in the number of pedestrian fatalities. Not only are pedestrians being killed at an alarming rate, but many more are being left with serious life-altering injuries. Quite often, pedestrians who are involved in accidents with motor vehicles are left with injuries that require immediate medical attention. After undergoing surgery, many victims have to spend days or even weeks in hospitals.
When victims incur broken bones, spinal cord damage, and traumatic brain injuries, they are forced to undergo immediate and long-term treatment. Not only are victims left to suffer physically from their crashes, but their families suffer as well. They are often forced to endure stacking medical costs and devastating financial consequences from lost wages and property repairs.
Although we want to believe that every driver on the road operates their vehicle in a careful and considerate manner, this is far from the truth. In fact, driver negligence, carelessness, and distraction are some of the leading causes of accidents in Oregon and throughout the entire country.
The mental, physical, and financial impacts of collisions are often unbearable for victims. Not only are victims forced to endure the consequences of these accidents, but their families often face mental and financial challenges as well. When victims are harmed in crashes due to the actions of others, it is crucial that they seek legal guidance as soon as possible. Victims may have legal options to help them secure the compensation they need to move forward. By contacting a pedestrian accident attorney in Portland, you can learn about different legal options available to help you move forward.
