Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Oregon
Each year, motor vehicle accidents have a life-altering impact on people across our state. Regrettably, no one is out of harm’s way when it comes to the possibility of being injured. In fact, people who travel outside of vehicles are even at risk. Pedestrian accidents are often catastrophic due to the fact that these people are not protected from outside forces. Although we like to believe we are taking measures toward protecting pedestrians, we continue to see them harmed and killed at an alarming rate. Statistics in the state of Oregon show that a 22% increase in the number of pedestrians who lost their lives in traffic collisions occurred between 2018 and 2019. Nearly 20 people end up losing their lives in these accidents each year in the Portland area.
When victims are fatally injured in accidents, their families are often left to pay tens of thousands of dollars on funeral expenses. To make the situation even more challenging to accept, families often lose sources of income that they depend on. Not only are families left to deal with the immediate impacts of pedestrian wrecks, but the long-term mental and emotional consequences can be unbearable. Although there is nothing that can be done to bring back those taken away unexpectedly due to traffic-related incidents, families may have legal options available to help them move forward after suffering the loss of a loved one due to another person’s actions. By contacting a wrongful death attorney in Portland, families may be able to collect compensation to help cover the financial burdens they face.
