Portland, OR (February 18, 2023) – One person was left with injuries after a police chase led a suspect to crash into their vehicle on Thursday morning, February 16.
Reports from the Portland Police Bureau show that at around 10:00 a.m., the police noticed a man inside a truck, and they backed their unmarked patrol unit and stopped behind it.
The man then drove forward and attempted to steer toward the officer before ramming the patrol unit and fleeing the area. Police later located the vehicle again in the area of Southwest Woodstock Boulevard and Southeast 44th Avenue. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the man fled the scene a police time.
After leaving the area, the vehicle crashed head-on into a second car. The impact of the crash sent the second vehicle off the road and into the yard of a home nearby.
The driver was seriously injured in the accident.
The driver of the vehicle again attempted to flee the scene, this time on foot. After a short search, police apprehended the suspect, who was identified as 41-year-old Joshua Smith.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
