Fatal Car Accidents in Oregon

Portland, OR – Morgan Martin Killed in Head-On Wreck on Highway 26 near MM 53Auto accidents take the lives of hundreds of people in the state of Oregon each year. Regrettably, many of these accidents are a result of negligence. We see countless people die as a result of drivers who are traveling too fast for road conditions, run red lights, or engaging in other reckless actions while behind the wheel. Unfortunately, inclement weather conditions often contribute to accidents taking place.

In the U.S., bad weather is a major factor in about 22% of car accidents each year, nearly 1,235,000, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. One of the most common types of inclement weather that causes accidents is heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains can cause flooding and hydroplaning, making it difficult or impossible to see the road ahead and to control your vehicle. Snow and ice can also make roads slippery, reducing traction and increasing stopping distances. Strong winds can blow debris into the road or knock over trees or power lines.

All of these conditions can make driving very dangerous, even for experienced drivers. If you must drive in bad weather, take extra care to slow down and allow yourself more time to reach your destination safely.
