Fatal Car Accidents in Oregon

Portland, OR – Lori Pillette Killed, Four Hurt in Auto Wreck on Highway 99WEach year, auto accidents in the United States take the lives of more than 40,000 people. Unfortunately, countless people end up passing away as a result of crashes that take place right here in the state of Oregon. There are many cases where people cross over the centerline of travel and strike other vehicles sharing the road. These accidents are often devastating. Some of the leading causes of fatal head-on collisions involving drivers who travel into the opposite lane of travel include:

  • Fatigued driving: Drowsy driving is especially dangerous because it can cause a driver to fall asleep at the wheel. When this happens, it’s almost impossible to prevent crossing the center line.
  • Intoxicated driving: Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the surest ways to cross the center line and cause an accident. Even small amounts of impairment can make it difficult to stay in your lane.
  • Weather conditions: Poor weather can make it more difficult to see lane markers and stay within your lane. This is especially true in heavy rain or fog.

Regrettably, when drivers are speeding, they are also likely to lose control of their vehicles and cross into the opposite lane of travel. These accidents can often be catastrophic due to the force of the impact of the collision.
