Portland, OR (November 23, 2022) – A traffic accident took place in the Portland area on Monday that resulted in injuries. On November 21, a group of bicyclists was traveling in the area of southeast 117th Avenue and Southeast Division Street.

The group approached a crosswalk on Southeast 117th Street as they waited for the signal to proceed through the area of Southeast Division Street.

As the bicyclists proceeded through the crosswalk, a van sped through the area past the red light and struck the bicyclists. The van driver then fled the scene of the accident. Several people who witnessed the accident continued to follow the driver of the van. The driver was later taken into police custody and identified as 25-year-old Yingzhi Chen of Seattle.

One of the bicyclists suffered injuries as a result of the accident.

The Portland police department is actively investigating the incident.

We hope those harmed as a result of the crash recover quickly.

Bicycle Accidents in Oregon

Portland, OR – Group of Cyclists Struck by Vehicle at SE 117th Ave & SE Division StThere are a few common types of accidents that occur when drivers fail to yield to cyclists or violate their right-of-way. One of the most dangerous is when a driver turns left into oncoming traffic, cutting off a cyclist who may be riding straight through an intersection. Many of these accidents take place at intersections where drivers run red lights or pass stop signs. Another common scenario is when a driver passes a cyclist too closely, giving them no room to maneuver if they need to avoid a pothole or other hazard in the road.

Speeding is another major factor in bicycle accidents. Cyclists are much more vulnerable to being seriously injured or killed when struck by a speeding car. Drivers who are speeding are unlikely to be able to stop in time to avoid a collision with a bicyclist. Unfortunately, we see many people hurt or killed as a result of speeding drivers.
