Portland, OR (July 31, 2022) – A bicycle accident reported in the Portland area early Saturday morning has claimed one person’s life. At around 2 a.m., on July 30, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of an accident on Northeast Halsey Street.

Reports from the Sheriff’s Office show that two bicyclists were traveling eastbound on Northeast Halsey Street during the morning hours. As the bicyclists traveled through the area of Fairview Boulevard, a driver crossed into the bicycle lane and struck one of them.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries due to the accident. The Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and pronounce them deceased.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident. Authorities were able to apprehend the driver. He was identified as 56-year-old Robert Lee Wilson. The driver was taken into custody.

The East County Vehicular Crimes Team is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
