Portland, OR – 5-Year-Old Boy Loses Life After Crash that Killed Mother on I-5 near 179th
Portland, OR (August 16, 2021) – A 5-year-old boy died in an accident that also took the life of his mother on Thursday, August 12. The young boy reportedly lost his life the following day, August 13, at Legacy Emanuel, according to information from officials.
The boy’s mother, identified as Patricia Slater, was killed at the time of the collision that occurred along southbound Interstate 5 near 179th in Clark County. Slater was approaching a DOT work zone when she struck the right rear-end of a DOT truck parked in the left lane.
Slater had three of her five children in the vehicle with her at the time of the collision. The other children, aged 3 and 9, sustained injuries and were taken to Legacy Emanuel for treatment, according to reports.
The youngest child was in a car seat while the 9-year-old had a seatbelt on at the time the crash took place. The contributing factors of the wreck have not been reported at this time.
Authorities in Portland continue to investigate.
